We are pleased to welcome award-winning educator and bestselling author Rafe Esquith to Next Chapter Bookshop. In his first book, Teach Like Your Hair's on Fire, Esquith offered tips and strategies to teachers based on his twenty-five years teaching fifth grade in Room 56 at Hobart Elementary School, located in a rough Los Angeles neighborhood. Despite numerous obstacles his kids routinely show up at school hours before the class bell rings to learn Shakespeare, musical instruments, mathematics, and more. The extraordinary students have performed across the country and have gone on to be high-achieving students in secondary and post-secondary education in schools across the country. But, these kids weren't born extraordinary. It took hard work and dedication on the parts of teachers and parents who were determined to instilling values in the children that will serve them well for the rest of their lives. With Lighting Their Fires, Esquith focuses on how parents, caregivers, and teachers can help their children learn and appreciate the value of hard work, humility, patience, respect, and help them learn how to make good decisions.
