Dr. Gwynne Kohl from North Shore Center
Part two of our series of parenting conversations with doctors from the North Shore Center continues with Dr. Gwynne Kohl whose topic is Finding Calm: A Parent's Guide to Understanding Normal Adolescent Development and Surviving the Teen Years
Finding calm is an essential skill for parents attempting to maintain effective relationships with their teens. Once you lose it, your teen is off the hot seat and your behavior is the problem. Perspective can be helpful in finding and maintaining calm. Teens are experiencing a myriad of developmental changes similtaneously, and if you have empathy for the fact that their physical development is ahead fo their cognitive and emotional development, then you are more likely to understand and respond effectively to some of their confusing and erratic behavior.
Dr. Kohl will discuss strategies parents can use and offer suggestions for keeping in mind the cognitive and emotional changes your teens are going through when setting limits for your children.Parents of tweens and teens should bring their questions and join Dr. Kohl for this special free event!
Dr. Gwynne Kohl is Adjunct Assistant Professor at UWM's Department of Psychology.
