Mike Trinklein, author of Lost States
Local
author Michael Trinklein got a lot of attention earlier this year for
his new book, Lost States: True Stories of Texlahoma, Transylvania, and Other States that Never Made It, as well he should have! It's a beautifully
illustrated book that sheds some light on the states that could have
been.
A few examples:
Frontier legend Daniel Boone once proposed a state of Transylvania on
the borders of Indiana and Illinois. (His plan was resurrected a few
years later with the new name of Kentucky.)
Residents of bucolic South Jersey wanted to secede from their "filthy" north Jersey neighbors and form their own union.
The Gold Rush territory of Nataqua could have made a fine state but since no women were willing to live there, they had to settle for being part of California.
If you like the quirky side of history, and great stories, make
sure you come out for this event!
Take a peek at Mike's blog! (It's packed with even more state-related info and fun!)
