Storytime with Miss Joyce and Mooshie

Join Miss Joyce and Mooshie every Thursday at 10:30 a.m. and now during the summer, at 1:30 p.m. on Mondays for a fun, interactive storytime! Everyone is welcome but stories are geared toward children ages 2-6.

Storytime for Thursday, August 26 (10:30 a.m.) & Monday, August 30 (1:30 p.m.)

Guess what Mooshie said when I asked him what he wanted for breakfast.
"Me-owtmeal" And "Me-owl?" That's what Mooshie said when we took a walk last night and heard a bird calling, "Hoot, Hoot." Has Mooshie turned into a cat? The answer came when I found him curled up on a pillow in the sun fast asleep, with the book, Kindergarten Cat by J. Patrick Lewis by his side. You won't be able to stop smiling, as we read the story of Tinker Toy, a cat who finds a home in a kindergarten classroom, and shows everyone that she's one smart cat!

After the story, you'll get to be the teachers in our very own kitty kindergarten class! For more fun, we'll need helpers for our felt board story and we'll be jumping up and down for a special back to school song. See you at storytime!

Storytime for Thursday, August 12  (10:30 a.m.) & Monday, August 16 (1:30 p.m.)

Mooshie has had a busy week! First, he decided to wash my car with the hose. Then he pushed all the sticks from our yard into a big pile and broke them into little pieces, while saying, "Vroooooom" over and over. Next, I discovered him with some yellow sidewalk chalk, drawing yellow stripes down the middle of her driveway! It all made sense when he told me that our house was really the village garage. I remembered that Mooshie told me I absolutely had to read The Village Garage by G. Brian Karas to the storytime kids this week. This terrific story lets us join in the work (and fun) as all year long, everyone who works at the village garage keeps busy, patching potholes, plowing the snow and much more! This is the perfect book for anyone who loves to see all the machines and trucks that are needed to keep a village in tip top shape. Put your work truck in gear and come and join in the fun, as the storyime kids help fix up our storytime "village!"

Storytime for Thursday, August 5  (10:30 a.m.) & Monday, August 9 (1:30 p.m.)

Monday morning I woke up to the sounds of "CLANG," "CLINKETY," WHIRRR," "CRASH," coming from Mooshie's room! When I asked him what he was doing, he said, "I'm practicing for storytime, of course!" On Tuesday morning, he said, "Still practicing!" and handed me the book One Drowsy Dragon by Ethan Long, (Orchard Books). This story is brimming with fun, as one, then two, then more and more noisy dragons keep one drowsy, groggy, grumpy dragon awake! So, join us for our "Dragon Day" storytime, where we'll have musical instruments, toys, and more, to make lots of our own noise along with eleven loveably goofy dragons!

Storytime for Thursday, July 29  (10:30 a.m.) & Monday, August 2 (1:30 p.m.)

When Mooshie asked me for an empty box, a glue stick, colored paper, and crayons, I just had to ask him what he was making! He said that he was making something very special and that he got the idea from the book, Eeeek, Mouse! by Lydia Monk. Mooshie told me that in this really, really funny new book, Minnie is the only one in her family who likes the very cute mouse who is living in their house. When her daddy builds a contraption to trap the mouse, Minnie has to come up with a very clever plan of her own to save the day, and the mouse. That's all Mooshie would tell me and he won't give me the book until his project's done. So get ready for a great mouse tale, a search for a missing mouse, and a chance to see Mooshie's mouse masterpiece!

Who's at the Zoo?

Lions and kangaroos and orangutans, oh my! Mooshie and I can't wait till our next day at the zoo. So when Mooshie discovered the book, More Life-Sized Zoo by Teruyuki Komiya, he couldn't wait to show it to the storytime kids! Get ready to be eye-to-eye with life size photos of 20 different animals. We'll meet zoo friends like Cookie the kangaroo and Parnyu the cheetah and find out some fun facts about them. Then jump on the storytime train and take a photo of your favorite animal at the Next Chapter Zoo!

Thursday, July 1 (10:30 a.m.) & Monday, July 5 (1:30 p.m.)

I just got back from vacation and found Mooshie and a few of his friends following a red string that was winding all through the house! When I asked him what he was doing, he told me that if I read the totally terrific new book, Hugo and the Really, Really, Really Long String by Bob Boyle, that I would understand. Once again, Mooshie was right! Be sure to join Mooshie and me at Storytime, where we'll read about Hugo and find out what's at the end of that red string I just saw winding through the bookshop (Hmmm...?).

Thursday, June 17 (10:30 a.m.)

Hurray for Dads!

Why did Mooshie sprinkle me with the watering can instead of the flowers? It was a mystery to me too, until he showed me his terrific storytime book choice, Oh, Daddy! by Bob Shea. Daddy seems to need little hippo's help to do everything! Daddy even thinks you eat carrots by throwing them in the air! The storytime kids will be exclaiming, "Oh, Daddy!" as we celebrate "Hurray for Dads" week with this read aloud that's both funny and cozy as a big hug!

The Fathers Are Coming Home by Margaret Wise Brown

Froggy's Day with Dad by Jonathan London

Thursday June 10 (10:30 a.m.) and Monday, June 14 (1:30 p.m.):

Did you know that Mooshie loves playing any game that uses a ball? He loves baseball, soccer, and even a game of catch! Now, his favorite red and yellow ball has gone missing after a game of catch in the backyard. Oh no! We've been looking everywhere for it! I'm sure that's why his storytime request is Maggie's Ball by Lindsay Barrett George, in which Maggie, the dog, searches for her yellow ball that bounced away into town. With the storytime kids' help, maybe we'll find Maggie's ball and Mooshie's ball!
